About Us:


Chattahoochee Hills Charter School (CHCS) is an open-enrollment public charter school serving families residing in Fulton County, Georgia. CHCS, located south of Atlanta, is a recently approved charter school that commenced in the 2014-2015 academic year. CHCS will add one grade level each year through the 8th grade. CHCS embodies student-teacher engagement and interactive learning with about 17 students per classroom and a total enrollment of just over 300.

Our mission is to inspire all of our children to the highest levels of academic achievement through a rigorous curriculum that integrates the wonders of the natural world. CHCS’s goal is for our students to cultivate the capacity to achieve a meaningful, healthy, and flourishing life that embodies responsibility, stewardship, and experiential engagement with the arts, agriculture and environment in informed, imaginative, and rigorous ways.

CHCS is structured around a hands-on, thematic instructional approach, using the institution’s unique rural environment as a framework for student learning. At CHCS, students will learn through the lens of agriculture, environment, and arts—from which the state and federal educational performance standards can be achieved.

Position Summary:


CHCS is searching for its Principal. This position is a unique and exciting opportunity to grow a new charter school and building a world-class instructional platform.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Alignment with an unqualified belief in the CHCS mission, values, and academic philosophy
  • Demonstrated commitment to the reality that all children can achieve academic excellence
  • A Master’s degree in Education, Educational Administration, or related field from a 4-year, accredited college or university
  • Pass a criminal background check and other applicable background security measures
  • A contagious love of and respect for the outdoors and nature. The best candidate will likely be the sort of person who actively seeks opportunities to get wet, dirty, and muddy
  • Must be qualified and certified in accordance with Georgia professional standards
  • Must hold a Georgia Leadership Certification and/or Support License
  • Be highly present and visible during school hours, relentlessly ensuring the school has an amazing school culture and CHCS mission is carried out
  • Create an environment that celebrates great teaching and great teachers


Preferred Qualifications (though not required, the following will enhance a candidate’s application):



  • Experience starting and leading a charter school
  • An aggregate of six (6) years of appropriate teaching and administrative experience
  • Familiarity with Environmental Education, the constructivist approach to teaching and learning, and Environment as the Integrated Context for Learning (EIC)
  • Familiarity with the Georgia core content standards, grades (K-8)
  • Familiarity with the Georgia Core Performance Standards and the Georgia Milestones.


Standard Duties and Responsibilities (including but not limited to):



  • The CHCS Principal is regarded as CHCS’s internal and external operational leader. S/he will be responsible for providing the instructional, operational, and administrative leadership necessary to ensure the success of the school. S/he organizes, administers, supervises, and evaluates all aspects of CHCS school design within the school and the greater school community. The CHCS Principal will be held accountable for the continuous growth and improvement of the school and its personnel and for increasing student achievement.

  • CHCS views leadership in terms of three distinct functions: instructional, business, and school culture. Accordingly, our performance standards for Principals, represented in this job description, are listed in the three below-indicated categories:


Instructional leadership:

  • Provide leadership, direction, and support to the implementation of the school’s instructional and program plans
  • Provide instructional leadership in advancing proven teaching and learning practices; continue to ensure the development and honing of pedagogical strategies and classroom management techniques in order to create enriching learning atmospheres
  • Provide leadership in the formulation and annual adjustment of the school's instructional and program plans
  • Supervise and evaluate staff to ensure quality instruction and student achievement
  • Ensure that continuous improvement is guided by student academic standards, school performance standards, and concrete data from federal, state, and local assessments
  • Ensure that continuous improvement processes address the achievement of all students

Business Leadership:

  • Supervise and maintain all operations involving the management of the school, including school funds, district funds, payroll, purchases, inventories, and office operations
  • Ensure a safe and orderly environment
  • Establish and maintain a close working relationship with the local and state boards of education/trustees, the Fulton County, Georgia community, and other applicable educational platforms needed for the school’s success
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continued professional development, individually as well as a group
  • Uphold all school policies and procedures; ensure that the school meets or exceeds all statutory and contractual requirements, and achieves the renewal of its Charter


Organizational Leadership:

  • Communicate the mission and vision that supports the goals of CHCS; articulate the school's mission and values and model those attributes
  • Develop a plan for achieving the school's mission and vision; achieve a common understanding with the school community
  • Foster a culture of and commitment to the school’s mission, values and learning philosophy
  • Engage parents and community in planning and implementing programs, including community use of the school site
  • Build on the strengths of staff; recognize continuous improvement
  • Support and monitor the development of all staff and implementation of program improvements
  • Possess and encourage an entrepreneurial spirit, being flexible, willing and able to play different roles at the school, and going above and beyond to meet the varied and constant needs of the CHCS community

Reports To:

The Principal reports to the Governing Board of CHCS.
